Holy Freaking Cow... I made it!
by czarofmischief inyeah, i made it.. i volunteered for the us army wayyyy back in october - graduated from basic in december, and have spent the last 20 weeks struggling to get through the officer candidate program at ft. benning.
yep.
i'm going to graduate in about a week and become a 2lt.. the experience has really helped me get a lot of perspective on my former life as a jw, and i am pretty excited about the new life that's in front of me.

Happy Freaking mother's day to me...when your mom is crazy as a loon.
by Fleur inthose who have known me for any length of time through these forums know that my mom is, at best, unique, and at worse, totally freaking nuts.
i went to see her yesterday, specifically.
i didn't want to, i am honest enough to admit that.

I'm sorry that Mother's Day is such a damper on you because of your mother's illness.
I see all my siblings heading at breakneck speed down the same road into little worlds of their own that make sense to no one and mean nothing outside their own skulls. Am I doomed to follow?
No, you're not doomed to follow. My sister-in-law had the same problem with her mother, who passed on about five years ago. During the last couple of years, her mother totally lost it and was put on medication which really helped and made the situation manageable. Her mother used to answer the door with a clothespin on her tongue (whatever)...
The point is, my sister-in-law who was very stressed out, not only because of the situation, but because of her workload and life in general, truly felt she was 'losing it' and starting the downward spiral of what her mother was. My SNL found out that she had a hormone deficentcy and a chemical imbalance. She started an exercise and yoga class (for stress) and was put on all-natural supplements and it completely turned her life around. Her holistic doctor told her that just the fact that she was worrying about becoming like her mother was contributing to the depression and negative emotional feelings in her life....in other words, she was emotionally self-fulfilling what she was worrying about. She's in her fifties and everything is normal now.
As far as your siblings, it sounds like they are a product of their environment rather than genetics.
Feel better.... CHOOSE to rise above it... do what you can, but take care of yourself and your life.

Mmmm! Im also don't get it. The letter seems a very positive one....if your a JW.
you have to read further down in the thread. The beginning is 'positive', but then the posters start questioning Brooklyn's motives.

Did you ever "Feel" God's Holy Spirit upon you?
by JH in.
sometimes when i pray or when i want to talk to god, reason with him, and i make a long prayer and intense one, i feel some kind of power guiding my words, even surprising myself with what i say.

Those governed by the Spirit of God manifest certain behaviour patterns that are characteristic such as love, peace, kindness, and I can tell you the Spirit tends to get extinguished in the JW environment and perhaps in most other environments.
I felt what you mentioned many times but there is no environment to sustain it in the long term.I agree....that's what my experiences with the subject have taught me. I believe the Creator is present everywhere, like radio waves (don't read anything into that...) ... but I think most of our 'radios' are turned off, or just aren't quite tuned in to the "frequency" because of the environment...etc. But when one IS in the 'zone', there's no mistaking it.

Does this make me an apostate?
by under_believer intoday i had reason to enter a hospital.
nothing serious, just a doctor appointment.
as i was walking through the enclosed entryway (it was one of those affairs with a revolving door at one end and double doors at the other,) i saw the spanish-language watchtower and awake!

Don't worry about it.... who knows, what you did might have eventually "saved" someone a lifetime of WatchTower slavery both to them and their family..... it was a good thing, because you know the truth about the "Truth".

I saw it in the theatre when it came out originally. I really liked it, though it was brutal in places. I never been to a movie where there was such an impact at the end. Total silence, people sat there and as they finally did move out you could see many people with tears.

Door to Door
by I-follow-the-narrow-path injust wondering... what do you think about the jw going door to door?
do you like it or dislike it?
my view is ( weather something is false or not) i think it is great someone shares what they love with someone else.

Door to Door service I think is great... and other religions should do it.
Remember the guys in suits on their bicycles... the Mormons do it day in and day out. Two weeks ago our local baptist church sent people out with flyers in our neighborhood for free bible studies and social activities. I know the JWs like to claim they're the only ones going door-to-door, but the facts prove otherwise.
